Field Windbreaks

Field Windbreaks

– Two to four rows of trees planted adjacent to cropped fields reduce the detrimental effects of winds in an area that is up to 20 times the height of the windbreak. These trees reduce soil erosion from winter winds and evaporation loss from hot summer winds. These windbreaks also help capture snow, providing additional moisture for crops. Junipers and Eastern Red Cedars combined with rows of shrubs make excellent field windbreaks.  https://www.fsa.usda.gov/Assets/USDA-FSA-Public/usdafiles/FactSheets/2015/CRPProgramsandInitiatives/Practice_CP5A_Field_Windbreak_Establishment.pdf
